Party at Tom & Maggie Masinter’s home, 15 minutes from Alamo Plaza. Event included:

  • Entertainment by guitarist/singer Michael Hawthorne and singer/cowgirl Lori Beth Brook.

  • Southwestern fare - homemade tamales, chili, queso, guacamole, etc.

  • Beer, wine, non-alcoholic beverages provided, or bring what you prefer.

38TH ANNUAL ALAMO HISTORICAL SOCIETY SYMPOSIUM

Where: Menger Hotel

This year’s symposium featured fantastic history presenters, a raffle & silent auction, vendors, authors/book signings. This year’s presenters included:

KEYNOTE SPEAKER: Gregg Dimmick, MD.

Presentation: THE SOLADERAS (female, non-combatant camp followers) OF THE MEXICAN ARMY OF OPERATIONS AGAINST TEXAS.

About Dr. Dimmick: Texas Revolution historian and avocational archaeologist. He is a widely acclaimed author with expertise in the Mexican Army of 1836.

SPEAKER: Jack Edmondson

Presentation: REFLECTIONS ON TORIBIO LOSOYA.

About Jack: Retired history teacher; renowned Alamo historian; acclaimed author; honorary member of the Sons of the Republic of Texas; past President of the Alamo Historical Society and Society Hall-of-Fame inductee.

SPEAKER: Laurie Foreman

Presentation: THE WOMEN OF NACOGDOCHES: SPIRIT OF THE REVOLUTION.

About Laurie: Direct descendant (4th great-granddaughter) of David Crockett.

SPEAKER: Estephania LeBaron-Papanicolaou

Presentation: HOW SHE ACQUIRED HER ROLE, RESEARCHED HER CHARACTER, AND HER EXPERIENCE PORTRAYING JUANA..

About Estephania: Played a supporting role as Juana Alsbury in the film The Alamo (2004).

SPEAKER: Stephen Oleszek, Ph.D.

Presentation: EXAMINING ORIGINS OF ALAMO MYTHS AND WHY THEY TEND TO OVERSHADOW HISTORICAL FACTS..

About Dr. Oleszek: Professor of history and the humanities at Florida State University.

SPEAKER: Jerry Patterson.

Presentation: ALAMO MUSEUM INTERPRETATION: WHERE WE’VE BEEN & WHERE WE’RE GOING..

About Jerry: Former Texas State Senator and Commissioner of the General Land Office (2003-2015.)

SPEAKER: Edith Pollitz.

Presentation: REFLECTIONS ON TRAVIS BY FIANCÉE REBECCA CUMMINGS.

About Edith: Attorney with Florida State Legislature; Travis historian and published auth

TRIP TO THE RIVER MISSIONS

Attendees boarded a charter motorcoach for a tour of the missions of San Antonio. The tour included Missions Espada, San Juan, San José, and Concepción.

Not an AHS -sponsored event, open to all! This traditional event is held each year to

honor the fallen heroes of the Battle of the Alamo.

BREAKFAST AT THE BUCKHORN ‒ SPONSORED BY THE BUCKHORN SALOON AND MUSEUM

Buffet-style breakfast is available following the Dawn Ceremony.
